Frequently asked questions
Can crew install Quarterdeck as an app on their phone?
Yes. Quarterdeck is a Progressive Web App (PWA) — crew add it to their iPhone or Android home screen and it opens like a native app, full screen, with no browser bars. Some safety-critical screens (the Crew Board kiosk, Muster Station displays) cache locally so they keep working if the network drops; the day-to-day crew portal needs a connection. Does Hours of Rest work for any flag state?
Yes. Quarterdeck applies the MLC/STCW baseline plus any stricter flag-state requirements (e.g. Cayman Islands superyacht standards) automatically, based on your vessel's flag setting. The rule set updates if you change flag state.
Can the iPad kiosk work offline?
The Master kiosk continues to work during a network outage. Secondary kiosks lock to prevent split-brain conflicts (two kiosks recording different states for the same person), and any queued actions sync once the connection returns.
How do I move a crew member to a different muster position?
Muster positions are static — they carry their own duties, station, and survival craft. You reassign the position to a different crew member, and the new person inherits all the duties automatically. Their Safety Card updates without anyone having to re-edit it.
Who can sign off the monthly Hours of Rest timesheet?
Anyone with an HoR Role of Admin in the Hours of Rest crew list. This is typically the master, or a designated officer authorised to sign on the master's behalf. Once signed off, the record locks; unlocking is possible but logged.
Can I export booking history or rest hours data?
Yes. Car Pool bookings export as CSV with one click. Hours of Rest produces the official ILO/IMO PDF for every crew member per month. Crew Board logs export as CSV too.
